Ancient sport becomes cultural bridge between India and Egypt

The game is becoming a cultural and sporting bridge between the two countries

The ancient and traditional Indian sport, known as Kabaddi, is swiftly gaining popularity among athletes and fans in Egypt due to its intense physical dynamics and rich cultural heritage from South Asia.

Kabaddi involves two teams of seven players each, competing in two 20-minute halves. A player, chanting "Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi," attempts to touch an opponent while avoiding being tackled.

This year, the Embassy of India in Cairo, in collaboration with the Egyptian Kabaddi Federation, organised the "India-Egypt Kabaddi Friendship Tournament" at the Helwan University Club near the Egyptian capital, Cairo, as reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The event, which featured 12 men's and women's teams, coincided with the cultural celebration of India Day and attracted a large number of spectators.

The Egyptian Kabaddi Federation continues to promote the sport through training, tournaments, and courses, while local initiatives aim to replicate the success of India's professional Kabaddi league.

With its growing popularity, Kabaddi is becoming a cultural and sporting bridge between India and Egypt.
