Federal initiative expands free programme as demand for digital security experts surges

Brazil has announced 25,000 new places in a nationwide cybersecurity training programme, as authorities step up efforts to address a growing shortage of digital security professionals and counter a rise in online fraud and cyberattacks, as reported by Agencia Brasil.
The expansion of the Hackers do Bem initiative, led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, comes amid mounting concern over vulnerabilities in public and private digital infrastructure.
Since its launch in January 2024, the programme has certified more than 36,000 participants. Officials say the latest intake will further strengthen the country’s capacity to prevent data breaches and attacks on essential services.
The scheme requires no prior experience. Students in secondary or technical education, university undergraduates, IT professionals seeking specialisation and individuals changing careers are all eligible to apply. Training begins with an introductory course, followed by a basic level, before advancing to intermediate and specialist modules that include live classes and practical laboratory work. The final stage offers a six-month technological residency, providing hands-on experience and a monthly stipend.
Participants from diverse backgrounds have already benefited, including mid-career professionals and graduates from non-technical fields who have transitioned into areas such as digital forensics and ethical security testing. Officials say widening participation, including among women and older learners, is central to building a resilient and inclusive digital workforce.
