China and Russia sign documents on humanitarian cooperation

Agreements were signed in the fields of education, tourism, sports, health care, youth policy, cinematography, and culture

The 25th session of the China-Russia Committee on Humanities Cooperation was held in Moscow, chaired by Shen Yiqin, Chinese State Councillor, and Tatyana Golikova, Russian Deputy Prime Minister.

Shen Yiqin emphasised that people-to-people exchanges play a key role in Sino-Russian relations. He recalled that in May 2024, the two presidents, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, jointly celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. This is reported by CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

Shen Yiqin urged the two sides to use this anniversary as a new starting point and continue to implement plans for humanitarian cooperation. He highlighted the importance of holding key events such as the China-Russia Years of Culture and writing a new chapter in cultural cooperation.

She added that the decisions of the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to expand international cooperation in people-to-people exchanges will give new impetus to China-Russia humanitarian cooperation.

For her part, Tatyana Golikova, expressed readiness to continue to deepen and expand practical cooperation with China in the field of humanities to promote the comprehensive development of bilateral relations.

“I am confident that the potential for the development of our bilateral relations is far from being exhausted, with major tasks ahead to boost them”

Tatyana Golikova Russian Deputy Prime Minister

Shen Yiqin also stated that following the 25th session of the China-Russia Committee on Humanities Cooperation held in Moscow, seven agreements were signed in the fields of education, tourism, sports, health care, youth policy, cinematography, and culture.

According to Golikova, special importance is attached to the development of our partnership in the field of sports. The Games of the Future, a new format of physical fitness competitions adopted on the initiative of President Vladimir Putin, have opened a new era in the sports movement. This format is very popular and enjoys tremendous support at the international level. The participation of Chinese athletes in these competitions was a valuable contribution to the success of the competition and helped strengthen friendly sporting ties between the countries.

Cooperation in the cultural sphere is one of the fundamental components of humanitarian interaction between the two countries. More than 230 events are planned within the framework of the announced Russia-China Years of Culture, with more than 60 organisations from 44 Russian regions participating.
