China and Vietnam sign agreement to build pig production farm
Chinese and Vietnamese companies have signed a partnership agreement to build a vertical farm dedicated to pig breeding and pork production. The facility will allow Vietnam to produce, on average, more than 1 million pigs per year, according to the Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The farm will have the capacity to house 64,000 sows and include a feed factory capable of producing around 600,000 tonnes annually. The project aims to expand Vietnam’s pork production and reduce its reliance on imports.
Vietnamese representatives highlighted that the main advantages of the vertical farm are improved disease control and stronger biosecurity. In addition to preventing the spread of dangerous viruses, the facility’s modern systems will comply with environmental standards.
The Chinese side noted that the new facility will optimise land use, create jobs, and reduce feeding and logistics costs, making the product more affordable for consumers.
The initiative will particularly benefit southern Vietnam. It is estimated that around 20,000 pigs will reach markets in the country’s southern provinces by 2027, helping to stabilise prices in the region.
