Foreign Minister of China: China supports Russia's BRICS chairmanship
China supports Russia, which has taken over the BRICS chairmanship this year, in holding a successful BRICS summit. It was said by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
The Chinese foreign minister stressed that China is ready to work with Russia to strengthen the international influence of the association and promote cooperation in the BRICS format.
In turn, Lavrov said that Russia would intensify interaction with China to achieve greater results within the alliance.
Noting the fruitful results of Russia-China relations in 2023, the minister admitted, that this year Russia is ready to jointly maintain high-level exchanges with China. An important task is to strengthen co-operation in areas such as economy, trade and investment.
The Chinese minister also recalled that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia and the start of the China-Russia Culture Year. According to the Chinese foreign minister, the countries should promote the deepening of practical cooperation, people-to-people exchanges in various fields and social basis of bilateral relations. This is reported by CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.
It should be also noted that since 1 January 2024, the Russian Federation has led the BRICS association. This month, 5 countries – Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia - joined the group.
