Egyptian government launches initiative to boost cotton industry

The Egyptian government is taking steps to revitalise the cotton industry by increasing value-added production and reducing dependence on raw material exports

In an official meeting Ministers Mohamed Shimi and Alaa Farouk outlined strategies to improve cotton production and processing in Egypt.

Among the key issues discussed was the acceleration of the national project to modernise the spinning and weaving industry. This initiative aims to introduce advanced technologies, upgrade equipment and train workers to improve productivity and product quality.

Minister Shimi emphasised that country's goal is to maximise the value of Egyptian cotton, which is known worldwide, by expanding production capacity and increasing exports of finished products. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

To achieve these goals, the ministers addressed important issues such as ensuring a stable supply of cotton to local mills, improving cotton processing methods, and establishing fair prices for farmers. The meeting also discussed plans to expand short-staple cotton cultivation to reduce imports and save foreign exchange.
