Ethiopia aims to host the Africa Cup of Nations
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has expressed his country's strong desire to host the African Cup of Nations in 2029.
During a reception in honour of the leaders and participants of the General Assembly of the African Football Confederation, Ahmed stressed Ethiopia's commitment to hosting the prestigious championship, as reported by ENA, a partner of the TV BRICS.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister emphasised that Ethiopia is one of the founding fathers of African football and remains committed to the development of the sport in the region. The country has hosted important international tournaments in the past and is keen to use this experience to organise an international tournament.
In addition, the Ethiopian Prime Minister highlighted Ethiopia's recent economic achievements, with GDP growth of 8.1 per cent in the last fiscal year and a forecast of 8.4 per cent for the next one.
He mentioned the country's efforts to modernise its cities and build advanced infrastructure, including new sports facilities, in preparation for the event. Ahmed emphasised that the tournament will not only be a celebration of football, but also an opportunity for visitors to experience Ethiopia's rich history, culture and landscapes.
