India increases its rice exports
India is boosting rice exports by utilising an innovative technology platform. This is reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.
The platform is designed to facilitate interaction between Indian exporters and buyers.
Jitin Prasada, India's Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, said in a speech in the lower house of the Indian parliament that rice exports exceeded US$120 million in April-May of the current fiscal year.
The main export destinations are Maldives, Mauritius, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
In total, India supplies rice to 17 countries including Bhutan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Nepal.
The country has also taken various measures such as subsidising interest rates on export loans and developing export support infrastructure to boost foreign trade.
