Iran advances cancer treatment with domestically developed nanotechnology drugs

New generation therapies improve effectiveness and reduce side effects in cancer care

Iran is advancing the treatment of complex cancers through the development of domestically produced nanotechnology-based medicines, marking a new step forward in improving therapeutic outcomes.

According to Mehr News Agency, a new generation of nano-formulated therapies has been designed to enhance drug delivery, increasing treatment precision while minimising side effects – a critical factor in managing chronic and advanced diseases.

In oncology, one of the key developments is a nano-liposomal drug engineered to deliver active compounds directly to cancerous tissues. This targeted approach reduces the intensity of common chemotherapy-related side effects and improves overall treatment efficiency. Experts believe that the therapy has shown application in metastatic breast cancer, advanced ovarian cancer and Kaposi’s sarcoma associated with immune-compromised patients.

The use of liposomal and nano-carrier technologies enables controlled drug release, allowing higher concentrations of therapeutic agents to reach affected areas while limiting damage to healthy cells. This innovation represents a major improvement in the quality and safety of cancer treatment.

Beyond oncology, similar nanotechnology approaches are being applied in liver disease therapies. Advanced formulations based on nano-sized carriers significantly enhance the absorption of active compounds, improving effectiveness in the treatment of conditions such as fatty liver disease, cirrhosis and hepatitis, while reducing dosing frequency, the source claims.

Additional developments include nano-based supplements and topical treatments designed to increase bioavailability and therapeutic impact.

Experts note that such innovations highlight the growing role of nanotechnology in modern medicine, particularly in precision treatment and drug delivery systems. The ability to combine higher efficacy with lower toxicity is seen as a key advantage in addressing complex health conditions.

The expansion of domestic production has also contributed to improved accessibility, offering cost-effective alternatives that meet international quality standards.
