Iran has marked a milestone in its sporting history after Atousa Golshadnezhad captured the country’s first senior women’s gold medal at the World Karate Championships, held in Cairo. This is reported by Alalam News Network, a partner of TV BRICS.
The global event, which brought together competitors from 87 countries, concluded with final bouts across multiple weight categories. In the women’s 61 kg final, Golshadnezhad delivered a decisive performance. After initially trailing by two points, she staged a comeback to secure a victory and claim the championship title.

Besides Iran, other BRICS and BRICS+ nations continue to demonstrate strong momentum in international sport, underscoring a wider rise in athletic success across the Global South. Recent performances by young athletes from Kazakhstan provide a notable example. At the 27th Asian Youth Chess Championship in Bangkok, Kazakhstan secured 11 medals across classical, rapid and blitz formats, including five golds. With nearly 700 participants from 33 countries, Kazakh juniors dominated several age groups, reinforcing the country’s growing reputation as a chess powerhouse. In turn, Brazil’s women’s handball team has completed the opening phase of the World Championship with a three-match winning record, earning six points from victories. In the final match of the round, the team won 31–27, with Mari Fernandes scoring six goals. According to Agencia Brasil, Brazil now advances to the next stage of the tournament in Dortmund.
The trend of high-level results across the group is further reflected in recent judo successes on the international stage. At the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, Russia topped the medal table following a strong performance that included two gold medals and four silver. Arman Adamian captured the title in the men’s 100 kg category, while Ayub Bliev added another gold in the 60 kg division. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS. The tournament drew 373 judokas from 52 nations, with athletes from Japan, Germany, Georgia, Mongolia, and Brazil also securing key victories. The results underscored the increasingly competitive presence of BRICS and BRICS+ states in global martial arts.
