To achieve this goal, the country will simplify its visa regime and launch an employment programme for the best graduates
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced plans to increase the number of foreign students in Kazakh universities to 100,000 by 2029. Currently, over 31,000 foreign nationals are studying in the country, a record figure for Kazakhstan, reports Kazinform, a TV BRICS partner.
"Kazakhstan has set itself a complex but extremely important task – to become part of the global knowledge market. To achieve this goal, partnerships have been established with 40 leading universities worldwide, and 33 branches of foreign higher education institutions have been opened," Tokayev said.
The Head of State noted that teaching in many branches is conducted in English, Russian, and Chinese, which is key to competitiveness. Furthermore, compulsory disciplines in the Kazakhh language and history of Kazakhstan have been introduced for foreign students.
To attract foreign students, the visa regime will be simplified, and comfortable learning conditions will be created. An employment programme is also planned, allowing the best graduates to remain and work in Kazakhstan.
Tokayev emphasised that the high demographic potential of Central Asian countries and neighbouring states opens up significant opportunities for Kazakhstan to export higher education.
