Participants of the World Youth Festival discuss the prospects for BRICS development

The World Youth Festival (WYF) in the Krasnodar Region hosted a discussion entitled "BRICS: New Challenges in the Era of Global Development". The event also featured a debate "Priorities and Strategic Areas of Scientific, Technological, and Innovation Cooperation among Partner Countries.” This is reported by the press service of the WYF.

The participants discussed the interaction of civilisations, partnership and joint development within the BRICS alliance, democratic foundations of relations between states and orientation towards economic development. The speakers also raised questions on how BRICS as a new system of international security and strategic stability can influence the development of the future.

“BRICS is a model of international relations of the future, which is based on completely new principles for the international community - the principles of generalization of sovereign states, each of which is ready to accept its partners as they are, and not as they would like to see them. And who are able to resist the dictates of the Western powers, who have been dictating for centuries and are trying to continue to dictate their will to everyone else. BRICS is a force aimed at the future; it represents more than 43% of the world’s population,” said Vyacheslav Nikonov, Chairman of the Board of the National Committee for BRICS Research.

He noted that the alliance is a set of countries that are developing and represent the global majority.

Bruno De Conti, Professor of the Institute of Economics of the University of Campinas, spoke about the concept of the Global South and the possibilities of Brazil's presidency of the G20. Professor of the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of the Center for Nanotechnology at the Indian Institute of Technology Rourke Pal Kaushik spoke about the importance of BRICS for India.

The event discussed the world's youth in the era of globalisation and the rise of social media, as well as the regulation of legal aspects of artificial intelligence.

“I think that BRICS today is capable of influencing the development of the future world order. Because all the BRICS countries are established states with a developed economy and political system. And they can be the center of attraction for other states. The BRICS countries are located on all continents of the modern world, and they can also influence the positions of all other countries,” said Nikolai Bordyuzha, Chairman of the Coordination Council of the Eurasian Information and Analytical Consortium.

The World Youth Festival takes place on the federal territory of Sirius from 1 to 7 March 2024 in accordance with the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The event is organised by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).
