South African athletes take first place in Comrades Marathon
South African runner Tete Dijana took first place in the men's Comrades Marathon race, a distance of 89.98 km from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Gerda Steyn from South Africa won the women's race. This is reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS
Dijana finished in 5 hours, 25 minutes and 22 seconds, securing his third consecutive Comrades Marathon title after victories in 2022 and 2023. Steyn's time was 5 hours 51 minutes 19 seconds – she becomes the champion of the women's race of this ultramarathon for the fourth time.
Also in the men's race, Piet Wiersma from the Netherlands took the second place with a result of 5 hours 25 minutes 33 seconds. The third place went to the Russian athlete Nikolay Volkov. In the women's race, the second place went to the Russian Aleksandra Morozova.
Comrades Marathon is the oldest and most popular track and field race in the world. It is held annually in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal.
