The Chinese National Symphony Orchestra enters new chapter under the leadership of conductor Shui Lan

China makes a strategic move to strengthen the orchestra's artistic direction

The Chinese National Symphony Orchestra is preparing for the new 2024–25 season, which will be marked by the appointment of conductor Shui Lan as new artistic director. This is reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

This significant event promises to raise the orchestra's creative bar and enhance its cultural influence both in China and abroad.

Shui Lan, known for his deep musical insight and dynamic conducting style, will lead the orchestra for the next three years.

He intends to expand the orchestra's repertoire, attract a wider audience, and create a dynamic atmosphere for the musicians' creative growth. In his new position, Shui will work with the orchestra's administrative team to develop innovative programmes, explore new musical territories, and maintain the highest standards of artistic integrity.

The new season promises to be an era of artistic innovation and cultural exchange. Audiences will see a diverse repertoire, including both classical masterpieces and contemporary works.

The National Symphony Orchestra of China, founded in 1956, has a rich history of performing classical Chinese music.

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, 10 Chinese symphony orchestras have commissioned a new symphony entitled Rising Sun from the East. The work will be premiered by the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra on September 13 at the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts.
