Russia holds Days of Spiritual Culture in Southeast and Central Europe

Local residents discovered Russian folk music and classical masterpieces

In October, the Days of Russian Spiritual Culture took place in Serbia, Hungary, and Bosnia, and Herzegovina. The project introduced international audiences to Russian music, art, and cultural traditions.

In Serbia, the cultural programme covered the cities of Vranje, Pirot, Nis, Aleksinac, Belgrade, and Sremski Karlovci. Lyudmila Zykina State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble "RUSSIA" and the Sretensky Monastery Choir performed before local audiences. Spectators enjoyed Russian folk music as well as classical works by Soviet and foreign composers.

In Belgrade, the Valentin Berlinsky Quartet held master classes for young musicians at the University of Arts, while the cultural centre in Sremski Karlovci hosted a photo exhibition by the State Historical, Architectural and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve “Kizhi” – “Kizhi: The Revived Masterpiece of Russia.” The same venue featured a concert by the “RUSSIA” Ensemble and the Sretensky Monastery Choir. Among the guests were the Mayor of Sremski Karlovci Municipality Dražen Đurdžić, Director of the Russian House in Belgrade Evgeny Baranov, representatives of the Russian Embassy, and local residents.

“The Days of Russian Spiritual Culture are being held in Serbia. [...] Today we are in Sremski Karlovci, listening to music. It is one music, our music – Russian and Serbian… [...] We love you very much; we love the Russian people and Russian culture,” shared Velibor Stevic, academician and Doctor of Sciences, a guest of the event.

In Hungary, the Days of Russian Spiritual Culture began with the opening of two photo exhibitions at the Russian Cultural Centre and the first-ever performance of the Sretensky Monastery Choir in the country. The concert gathered around 800 attendees, including Russia’s Ambassador to Hungary Evgeny Stanislavov and representatives of diplomatic missions from 15 countries.

Residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina also had the opportunity to attend concerts, exhibitions, and excursions. The festival concluded with a joint performance by international competition laureates.

The Days of Russian Spiritual Culture aim to strengthen ties between nations, promote Russia’s rich cultural heritage, and expand international cooperation. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. It is organised by the "Russian Seasons" autonomous non-profit organisation with informational support from TV BRICS.
