Vladimir Putin highlights role of Asia-Pacific region in global economy

The President spoke at the plenary session of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum

The Asia-Pacific region (APR) is currently one of the main centres of global economic growth. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the plenary session of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. He stressed that Russia is actively participating in trade and investment cooperation in the APR.

We are working on an equal footing with our partners and the region’s leading integration associations. Our strategic goal is to make the Far East a territory of cooperation and dynamic change in the economy and infrastructure, technological development, the training of personnel, and, of course, in the social sphere. This is what our projects and programmes, and our support instruments for business and social initiatives, are aimed at

The plenary session of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum was also attended by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Prime Minister of Mongolia Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Vice President of Myanmar Nyo Saw and Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang, alongside Vladimir Putin.

The President of Indonesia noted significant growth in trade between the two countries. He invited Russia to cooperate in the fields of energy, food security, space, higher education and transport. "Indonesia is now inviting the Russian Federation and all members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to increase the dividends of peace by bringing Eurasia and Indonesia closer together," Subianto said.

The Indonesian leader said that the free trade agreement between Indonesia and the EAEU is expected to enter into force in early 2027. He proposed establishing a mechanism to ensure direct maritime and air links between Indonesia and Vladivostok.

Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang confirmed that China remains the main trading partner of the Russian Far East. "China actively supports the development of advanced development territories and the Vladivostok Free Port. There are around 100 residents here, with total investment amounting to US$10.8 billion," he added.

He also called for stronger cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. According to him, Beijing welcomes the active expansion of Russian companies into the Chinese market and is ready to develop exchanges with Russia in culture, tourism and education.
