Wuxi Symphony Orchestra embarks on first international tour to Russia

Performances are scheduled in Novosibirsk, Moscow and Saint Petersburg

The Symphony Orchestra of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, has embarked on its first international tour, travelling to Russia to perform a series of concerts, reports Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The visit is part of the China–Russia Years of Culture and comes at the invitation of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian National Orchestra. Performances are scheduled in Novosibirsk, Moscow and Saint Petersburg from late September to early October.

Led by Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Lin Daye, the Chinese musicians will present a programme that blends tradition and modernity. It features works by resident composer Li Shaosheng, alongside classics.

The tour also marks a continuation of the cultural dialogue between the two orchestras, who previously collaborated in Wuxi in 2024. “This partnership is not only artistic but also symbolic of friendship, and it offers invaluable experience for our young ensemble”, said Lin.

According to Wu Simin, Chairman and General Director of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, the performances aim to showcase both the charm of Chinese music and the orchestra’s artistic calibre.
