Brazilian supercomputer can become one of the five most powerful in the world
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been presented with a draft strategy for the development of artificial intelligence in the country. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
Among the objectives of the project are to equip Brazil with an advanced technological infrastructure with high computing power and to develop advanced language models of the Portuguese language using data reflecting the cultural, social and linguistic characteristics of the country's population.
Investment for this purpose will reach 23.03 billion Brazilian reais (US$4,1 billion) by 2028. The new AI strategy aims to strengthen the country's sovereignty and its position among the states that contribute most to the technological development of society.
The project will be implemented in five areas comprising 54 points, among which are:
-
Infrastructure and artificial intelligence development;
-
dissemination, training and capacity building in the field of AI;
-
implementation of AI in public service delivery;
-
AI for business innovation;
-
supporting the regulatory and governance process of AI, and others.
The strategy presented includes improvements to the Santos Dumont supercomputer at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC) in Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro.
LNCC was founded in 1980 as a public institution providing the development of high-performance computing infrastructure for the country's scientific community. The Brazilian supercomputer was created in 2015.
