Chinese official of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhong Shujia: BRICS to play more important role in shaping the economic landscape

CPC delegation visited South Africa to discuss modernisation and cooperation


A delegation from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by the Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) and member of the Communist Party's Central Committee, Liu Jianchao, held a series of meetings in South Africa. This is reported by Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.

Minister Liu Jianchao presented China's modernisation plans and highlighted the importance of BRICS to South Africa. He noted that these countries play a key role in food security, energy and financial co-operation.

“Innovation is the main driver for economic growth,” he said.

Liu added, also sharing his vision of making Beijing an innovation centre. He noted that BRICS already plays a prominent role in international platforms.

Discussing renewable energy, Liu noted that now is the right time to form a strategy in this field in Africa and expressed his intention to promote Chinese technology in South Africa.

Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Policy Research in the office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, Zhong Shujia said BRICS plays an important part of China's foreign policy. He said the group will also play a more important role in shaping the economic landscape.

The delegation also answered questions related to the Belt and Road Initiative and Africa’s development, China-Africa educational cooperation, the role and influence of BRICS countries in international affairs, economic globalization and South-South cooperation.
