Ethiopia aims to achieve 8.3% economic growth in the current fiscal year

The strategy will continue efforts to reduce inflation and modernise market infrastructure

Ethiopia's Minister of Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa has announced that Ethiopia is aiming to achieve 8.3 per cent economic growth in the current fiscal year. This is reported by ENA.

After analysing the final figures for the 100 days of 2016 and plans for 2017, the government confirmed 7.9 per cent growth in the current fiscal year.

Successful execution in various sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and mining has helped achieve the set targets.

The agricultural harvest has increased by 100 million quintals, while irrigation and development programmes have also shown significant results. Gold and cement production improved and inflation fell to 23 per cent through a host of measures including duty-free imports and expansion of market infrastructure.

The plan for 2017 includes strengthening efforts in various sectors such as agriculture, industry, tourism and digital technology, as well as developing economic and social infrastructure to fight poverty.
