Iranian scientist creates rapid test for diagnosing brucellosis
A researcher from Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman has developed an innovative kit for diagnosing brucellosis. The test, based on an Immunochromatographic technique, provides a rapid and cost-effective diagnosis of the disease in both humans and livestock. This is reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Brucellosis, which is widespread in Iran and many other countries, is a zoonotic infection transmitted from animals to humans.
Difficulties in the diagnosis of brucellosis are related to the lack of specific symptoms and the difficulty of laboratory cultivation of the pathogen. Existing serological methods, such as the Rose Bengal Test (RBT), do not allow distinguishing between acute and chronic stages of the disease.
The rapid test developed by the Iranian researcher is able to identify specific antibodies to Brucella proteins and distinguish between IgM and IgG antibodies, which allows to accurately determine the stage of the disease.
Experts notice that the advantages of the new kit are its high speed, low cost and ease of use, requiring no sophisticated equipment or trained personnel. This makes it an ideal tool for mass screening of human and animal samples in different regions of the country.
