Russia and China sign statement on deepening relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a joint statement on deepening relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.

The document was adopted following the results of Russian-Chinese negotiations. As explained by Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, it is a detailed statement consisting of more than 30 pages.

“It notes the special nature of our relations and will outline further ways of developing the whole complex of bilateral ties, confirming the leading role of Russia and China in the formation of a just and democratic order"

In the presence of Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, the Russian and Chinese delegations signed 10 more joint documents at the level of the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry or the Development of the Russian Far Eastand Arctic, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Rosselkhoznadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance), Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare), the Business Russia association and the media.

Among the agreements are a memorandum on the BRICS expert forum, the concept of development of “Bolshoy Ussuriysky” Island, protocols on requirements for beef and topinambur exported to China, agreements on the creation of a cross-border reserve “Land of Big Cats”, agreements on media cooperation, information exchange, and cooperation between business associations.

Following the meeting, Putin called the relations between Russia and China a model of building ties between neighbouring states.

Xi Jinping, in turn, added that the sides intend to deepen political mutual trust and respect the chosen path of development.

Vladimir Putin arrived in China on 16 May for a two-day state visit. This is the Russian leader's first foreign trip after his re-election. The talks to be held in Beijing and Harbin will mark the beginning of a new stage in relations between the two countries.
