Vietnam targets global leadership in sustainable seafood exports by 2030

Vietnam’s seafood business community is positioning itself to lead in both scale and sustainability

Vietnam, currently the world’s third-largest seafood exporter, is advancing a national strategy to modernise and sustainably grow its seafood sector, aiming to reach export revenues of US$14–16 billion by 2030.

With over 7 per cent of global market share, the country seeks not only to strengthen its position in global trade but also to transform its value chain through innovation, sustainability, and integration. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the official figures, the development of the seafood industry will increasingly depend on its ability to adapt to evolving global standards, including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) requirements, rather than export volumes alone.

Vietnam also benefits from preferential tariffs under multiple free trade agreements, enabling faster market access and broader sourcing options. Key proposals include developing specialised aquaculture zones for major seafood species, establishing clear zoning plans for industrial and traditional farming areas, and integrating seaports, cold storage, and processing facilities.

Efforts are also underway to accelerate the issuance of farm identification codes and apply artificial intelligence to monitor environmental conditions and disease outbreaks.

As the 2030 horizon approaches, Vietnam’s seafood business community is positioning itself to lead in both scale and sustainability, building a future-ready industry that not only meets global demand but also sets new benchmarks for innovation and responsibility in seafood production.
