BRICS: in the Miфrror of Times. How did the USSR help in the fight against apartheid in South Africa 

On 27 April 1994, the first free elections were held in South Africa. Shortly before that, diplomatic relations were restored between our country and South Africa. And Moscow was visited by the president of the republic for the first time. All this took place against the backdrop of the gradual abandonment of the apartheid regime in South Africa.

What role did the USSR and then Russia play in this complex process? How was it possible to avoid large-scale bloodshed at the turn of the eras in South Africa? And what is the Nelson Mandela phenomenon?
