Unique elephants found in Tembe Park in South Africa
A programme about Tembe Elephant Park. This park in northern KwaZulu Natal is home to the last endemic population of African elephants found on the East coast of South Africa. Scientists have studied the herd genetics and established that probably due to the secluded region in which they survive, they have been able to retain a specific genetic strain that sets them apart from all other elephants in Africa, making them unique to the species and in great need of our protection.
