Egyptian and South African swimmers move to top of table at XVI Africa Aquatics Swimming & Open Water Championships

XVI Africa Aquatics Swimming & Open Water Championships take place in Angola and will finish on 5 May


The Angolan Vice President Esperanca Maria Eduardo Francisco da Costa welcomed the 228 athletes from 42 countries taking part in the competition.

He thanked them for entrusting Luanda to host the competition, and reiterated the commitment of the executive to the development of sport in the country and the strengthening of ties with African brothers.

Egypt with three gold and two silver medals and South Africa with two gold and three silver medals topped the leaderboard, followed by Algeria with one gold and three bronze.

The hosts managed to finish second on the podium in the 200m butterfly thanks to Lia Lima.

Uganda topped the podium in the 100m freestyle while the women's swim was won by South Africa. This is reported by Prensa Lartina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The continental competition selects the best swimmers for the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held next July in Paris, France.
