Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie celebrates his 69th birthday

This is his first birthday as President of Ethiopia

President Taye Atske-Selassie Amde, born in Debark on 13 January 1956, celebrates his 69th birthday.

Taye Atske-Selassie earned his first degree in Political Science and International Relations from Addis Ababa University. Throughout his career, he supplemented his education with specialised international training in political science and diplomacy. This is reported by Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS.

He began his career at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving in various capacities, including consultant roles in the European Department. Subsequently, he held senior positions such as Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Egypt. He also represented Ethiopia as its Permanent Envoy to the United Nations.

Upon his return to Ethiopia, Taye Atske-Selassie served as the Prime Minister’s Foreign Policy Advisor and later assumed the role of Minister of Foreign Affairs in February 2024.

On 7 October 2024, Taye Atske-Selassie Amde was sworn in as the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia during a joint session of the House of People’s Representatives and the House of Federation.
