The Russian side expressed readiness to support the kingdom in this matter
Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa asked for Moscow's support in joining BRICS as a full member during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Brazil. This is stated in a statement published on the official website of the Thai Foreign Ministry.
"The Thai Foreign Minister reaffirmed the country's aspiration to become a full member of BRICS and expressed hope for Russia's support. The Russian side took note of this intention and expressed readiness to support it," the press service said in a statement.
In addition, the two sides discussed the exchange of high-level visits, trade cooperation, cooperation in nuclear medicine, and culture, as well as the start of negotiations on a free trade zone (FTA) between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
After his meeting with Lavrov, Maris Sangiampongsa wrote on social media that during the talks he expressed the kingdom's desire to move forward with FTA negotiations with the EAEU and expand tourism exchanges with Russia. The Foreign Ministers met on the margins of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting, which was held in Rio de Janeiro on 28-29 April.
