UAE participates in the IOSEA Marine Turtles MoU meeting

The Sharjah Strandings Response Programme is being used to safeguard sea turtles from potential dangers

The AlQurm Protected Area in Kalba City has joined the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Indian Ocean's Southeast Asia (IOSEA). This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

This is Sharjah's second time that the UAE is participating in the ninth meeting of the memorandum's signatory nations, which is happening in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on June 24–27.

Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority, Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, emphasised the organisation's dedication to representing the Emirate of Sharjah at major international environmental meetings by showcasing creative solutions and noteworthy accomplishments in this area.

Al Suwaidi emphasised that the Al Qurm Protected Area in Khor Kalba is unique in that it is the oldest mangrove forest in the area and the only habitat for mangroves on the Gulf of Oman coast in the UAE. It is also home to the Arabian ringed kingfisher, an endangered bird that is only found in this part of the world.

Furthermore, it is thought to be the perfect location for more than 150 species of migratory and native birds, over 90 kinds of crabs, and 100 species of fish to feed and breed.
