Achievements of Russia’s mining engineering education system to gain international promotion through TV BRICS

Cooperation is aimed at strengthening scientific and educational ties among the BRICS+ countries and enhancing Russia’s international standing

TV BRICS will assist in enhancing the international prestige of Russia’s mining engineering education and production. A corresponding agreement on cooperation with the media network has been signed by the Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation International Competence Centre for Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO. The activities of the partners will be aimed at developing cooperation among BRICS+ countries in the fields of science, innovation and education, as well as strengthening Russia’s international authority.

“The importance of the work carried out by the TV BRICS team is difficult to overestimate. In the conditions of the information blockade of Russia on the western flank, the demand for delivering a news agenda focused on strengthening interaction with the countries of the BRICS group is obvious. The International Competence Centre in Mining Engineering Education, under the auspices of UNESCO, established on the basis of the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University, possesses significant potential for initiatives in cooperation with TV BRICS. Projects such as the Russian-Chinese Mineral Resources University, the Russian-African Raw Materials Dialogue, the Russian-Malaysian Raw Materials Dialogue, the international professional retraining programme ‘Management of Subsoil Use Facilities’, and the ‘Summer Schools’ programmes with partners from more than 80 countries worldwide form the foundation upon which our interaction can be built. Together we are stronger! Godspeed!” said Vladimir Litvinenko, Chairman of the Governing Board of the International Competence Centre for Mining Education and Rector of the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University.

The Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation International Competence Centre for Mining Engineering Education, under the auspices of UNESCO, operates on the basis of the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University. The main objectives of the organisation are the development of systems of higher, technical and vocational education for training personnel for the mining industry; the creation of a unified system of international professional attestation and certification for engineering personnel of companies in the mineral resources sector; the establishment of an effective system to support innovative and technological research; and the creation of a unified educational space to ensure global mobility for students, postgraduate researchers, teachers and scientists at both national and international levels. The Competence Centre makes a significant contribution to the development of mining engineering education worldwide, particularly in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

“The development of the education system, the mineral resources sector and its role in the economy are constant focuses of the consolidated BRICS+ agenda shaped by TV BRICS. The importance of interstate cooperation in the field of technical and vocational education and training has been recognised as a strategic priority for advancing sustainable development and promoting social integration, as emphasised in the final declaration of the 17th BRICS Summit and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Partnership with the International Competence Centre in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO will undoubtedly enhance the analytical depth of industry-related materials about Russia distributed to a wide international audience through the media network. Together we will contribute to the development of the expert community, the exchange of experience, and the strengthening of cooperation among BRICS+ countries in the humanitarian and economic spheres,” said Janna Tolstikova, CEO of TV BRICS.

The development of Russia’s mining industry is the focus of a series of TV BRICS documentary films that have been successfully broadcast in Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Kenya, China, Mozambique, and South Africa and presented at international film festivals. The media network’s team filmed the projects "Gold" and "More Precious than Gold" in Khabarovsk Territory; "Magadan Silver" in Magadan Region; "The Golden Coast of the Arctic" in the Chukotka Autonomous Area; and the film "Uralian Anomaly" in Sverdlovsk Region.

Today, more than 30 governmental and public organisations from Russia, Brazil, India, China, Cuba, South Africa, and Iran are partners of the TV BRICS International Media Network in the fields of science and higher education. These include members of the BRICS Network University, the Indian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (INDAPRYAL), the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB), the State Secretariat of Education of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba and the Ministry of Education of Cuba.

An International Competence Centre in Mining Engineering Education operates at the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University under the auspices of UNESCO, and has become a partner of TV BRICS.
