African countries set to promote investment and cooperation in energy sector

The African Energy Week (AEW) was held in Cape Town

The African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2024 conference reinforced its status as the premier event promoting investment and innovation in continent's energy sector. AEW 2024 took place in Cape Town, brought together ministers, representatives of international organisations and experts of the field. TV BRICS is the official media partner of the event.

Over the course of five days, the event provided a platform for deal-making, networking and industry insights into Africa's energy chain, which includes oil, gas, renewables, power and infrastructure.

Ministers from across the continent spoke about progress and investment opportunities in their countries. Leaders from Southern Africa, particularly Angola and South Africa, emphasised the profitability of the region's energy and mining sectors.

Gwede Mantashe, South African Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources said that countries must responsibly manage natural resources.

"Mine responsibly, drill responsibly, protect the climate, indigenous plants and land, but don't stop developing," he said.

West African countries provided updates on their most important oil and gas projects. East Africa showcased the potential of its emerging market, highlighting new exploration and infrastructure opportunities.

Anibor Kragha, Executive Secretary of African Refiners & Distributors Association (ARDA) said there are three things to focus on in the energy transition: "The first is clean transport solutions; the second is LPG and clean cooking; and the last is storage and infrastructure to be able to deliver this energy across the continent. We need to move from oil and coal to natural gas."

The AEW: Invest in African Energies 2024 conference demonstrated its key role in shaping the future of Africa's energy sector.
