Brazil boosts official employment by more than 247,000 new jobs
Brazil achieved a record-breaking employment increase in September 2024, with 247,818 new formal jobs created, as reported by the Ministry of Labour and Employment through the Novo Caged system. This marks a monthly rise of 15,305 positions compared to August’s 232,513 new jobs, reflecting the nation’s robust economic recovery and job market resilience. From October 2023 to September 2024, Brazil added over 1.83 million new formal jobs, a 28.6 per cent increase from the previous year’s figure of 1.43 million, reaching a cumulative total of 47.49 million formal employment positions that is the highest recorded in Brazilian history. The 2024 year-to-date total reached 1.98 million jobs by September.
The services sector played a crucial role, accounting for 128,354 new jobs. Industry followed with 59,827 positions, while trade added 44,622 and construction contributed 17,024 jobs. The agriculture sector saw a slight decline, losing 2,004 jobs.
Throughout 2024, all major economic sectors posted positive job balances. The services sector led with 1.04 million new jobs, followed by industry (405,493), construction (231,337), trade (216,778), and agriculture (81,490).
