Egypt plans 30% expansion of airline fleet

Government meeting outlines measures to boost tourism capacity and infrastructure

Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting of the ministerial committee on tourism at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to discuss plans to strengthen the tourism sector and prepare for rising visitor numbers. This is reported by Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

Madbouly highlighted recent growth in arrivals and described tourism as one of Egypt’s fastest-growing sectors and a key source of foreign currency. He said the government, in coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is working on a plan to increase the national airline fleet by about 30 per cent in the coming period.

The meeting also addressed the role of cultural activities in attracting tourists. The Ministry of Culture was tasked with preparing a monthly calendar of concerts, festivals and theatre events across Egypt. Minister of Culture Ahmed Heno noted that more than 55 cultural festivals are already being organised annually, alongside international initiatives in cooperation with UNESCO.

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy presented recent growth figures in visitor numbers and outlined efforts to ease licensing procedures and attract private investment in hotel projects.
