India and Russia sign agreement to produce medical consumables in Sakhalin

An Indian company and Sakhalin Region Governor Valery Limarenko signed an agreement under which localised production of nappies and medical consumables will be launched in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk this year. "The first production in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is planned to be launched as early as November 2024. It will produce nappies, personal hygiene products and other medical consumables. Its launch will reduce the region's dependence on imported technical rehabilitation equipment (TRE) and shorten the time of its provision to disabled people," the official website of the Sakhalin government states.

According to the regional authorities, the signing of the document was a continuation of co-operation that began during the working trip of the head of the region and the Sakhalin delegation to New Delhi in November last year.

Earlier it was reported that then in the course of negotiations the parties agreed to establish direct co-operation between pharmaceutical companies of the republic and the island region.

The production of personal care products and medical consumables in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk will be the first stage in this direction. In the future, the Indian business is considering launching a full-fledged pharmaceutical production in Sakhalin.
