Iran to reduce gas flaring within 4 years

Iran is promoting a transition to renewable energy

Iran has announced a strategic plan to minimise gas flaring at refineries within 4 years, with a significant reduction expected by March 2025. This initiative aligns with the country’s drive for energy efficiency and sustainability, as reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Iran's Deputy Oil Minister Saeed Tavakoli highlighted that natural gas makes up 72 per cent of Iran’s energy mix, emphasising the importance of optimising supply chains under the Seventh National Development Plan. He confirmed that while gas flaring levels are relatively low, a structured plan is in place to reduce it to a minimum.

Currently, Iranian companies are implementing a smart management system, including smart meters and data integration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). This will help identify inefficiencies and high-consumption areas, the source claims.

Additionally, Iran is promoting a transition to renewable energy. Government agencies are required to upgrade their equipment to enhance energy efficiency, and all financial obligations for this transition have been settled.
