Prabowo calls for Indonesia to lead global transition to clean energy
2026 State Budget prioritises renewable power, energy security, and subsidies for sustainable access
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has said that country must position itself as a global pioneer in renewable and clean energy, stressing the need to balance increased oil and gas production with an accelerated energy transition. This is reported by Antara News.
Speaking at the opening plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2025–2026 legislative year, Prabowo presented the government’s introduction to the 2026 State Budget Bill and its financial note.
The budget will allocate funds to expand solar, hydro, geothermal, and bioenergy power plants, with the aim of supporting Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target by 2060. Prabowo expressed confidence the target could be reached sooner with strong fiscal backing.
According to the President, energy security measures will include subsidies, tax incentives, renewable energy development, and expanded electrification in villages.
