South Africa’s Gauteng Province to establish trade partnership with China’s Hunan Province

South Africa’s Gauteng Province is set to finalise a trade agreement with China’s Hunan Province, creating new export opportunities for local businesses, according to a provincial government announcement. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi revealed the upcoming agreement during his State of the Province Address in Pretoria, highlighting its potential to expand international market access for small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs). The deal will facilitate the export of nuts, rooibos tea, biltong, honey, moringa, and wine to Hunan’s market of over 66 million people across 13 cities, with minimal trade restrictions.

Lesufi described the initiative as a transformative step for small businesses, enabling them to grow, create jobs, and contribute to economic development. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local enterprises in maximising the benefits of international trade.

According to the source, as South Africa’s leading economic hub, Gauteng has a long-standing history of bilateral trade engagement with China. In 2017, the province signed a memorandum of cooperation with Beijing, strengthening collaboration in investment, trade, governance, culture, and exchange programmes.
