South Africa to provide financial support for athletes at 2028 Olympics
The South African authorities will allocate funds to finance the training of athletes wishing to participate in the Olympic Games in 2028. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
At a meeting with South African athletes who competed at the Paris Olympics, Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie confirmed the government's intention to fully support national sport.
"By 2028, athletes will receive financial assistance," the minister said.
There are plans to send 300 athletes from South Africa to the next Games. At the same time, the path to high achievements should start now, developing children's and mass sports, the minister emphasised.
At the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, the South African team took 44th place in the team standings. South African athletes won 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. The only gold medal for her country was won by swimmer Tatiana Smith. The South African team also demonstrated their skills in athletics, rugby and mountain biking.
