Amanda Gomes, Honoured Artist of Tatarstan: “Culture brings people and nations together”

In 2025, the only overseas branch of the Bolshoi Theatre School marked its anniversary. For 25 years, the institution in Joinville, Brazil, has upheld the traditions of Russian ballet. Its graduates are highly sought after and perform on stages around the world, proving the outstanding quality of their training.

One of these graduates is Amanda Gomes. She not only successfully completed the course but also realised her childhood dream of performing on a Russian stage. Today, she is the prima ballerina of the Tatar Musa Jalil State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

What inspired her to perform on international stages? How does ballet become a bridge between cultures? And what does she consider her greatest achievement?

In an exclusive BRICSterview, Amanda Gomes speaks about the blending of her cultural roots, her triumphs, the applause she has won from audiences, and the role of dance in fostering dialogue between civilisations.
