Brazil launches national initiative to cut vehicle emissions

In line with global commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Brazilian Ministry of Transport has introduced the programme, aimed at curbing pollution from freight and passenger vehicles.

The programme sets out a framework for enhancing emission reduction efforts in road transport. It aims to promote national and international collaboration with public and private organisations to develop sustainable solutions, improve fuel efficiency, and align freight and passenger transport with environmental conservation goals.

The initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the federal government, as reported by Brazilian Ministry of Transport.

Meanwhile, the National Land Transport Agency is responsible for updating regulations to support ongoing emission reductions. The agency’s revisions will integrate obtained data into the National Register of Road Freight Transporters, reinforcing transparency and regulatory effectiveness.

Emissions monitoring will be consolidated by the National Transport and Logistics Observatory, ensuring data-driven decision-making and precise tracking of environmental impact.
