Copper art exhibition opens in China's capital

The event offers viewers more than 100 exhibits

The National Museum of China in Beijing has opened an exhibition showcasing works of art made of copper. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The three-month exhibition titled "Bridging Eras: The Copper Art of Zhu Bingren through Eight Decades" features more than 100 pieces created by Zhu Bingren, a master copper sculptor and a colourful heir to the Hangzhou tradition.

"Considering that all the exhibits weigh a total of 35.6 tonnes, this is indeed a heavyweight exhibition," said Wei Na, the exhibition organiser, adding that the aim of the exhibition is to demonstrate the artistic fusion of modern copper carving techniques with the tradition of the ancient bronze civilisation.

The art of Hangzhou copper carving was included in the list of China's national intangible cultural heritage in 2008. These art skills have been preserved by being handed down from generation to generation.
