Egypt targets tourism growth after 4% increase in visitor numbers
The authorities hope to maintain this positive trend and expand the country’s tourism infrastructure
The flow of international tourists to Egypt grew by 4 per cent between early 2026 and the first week of June, and growth could reach between 5 per cent and 7 per cent by the end of the year, compared with 2025, according to MENA, a partner of TV BRICS, citing statements by Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy.
To maintain this positive momentum, the authorities have been implementing measures to support the tourism sector, including incentives for airlines.
The minister also highlighted the country’s efforts to develop infrastructure, including the road network, rail transport and airports. Particular attention is being paid to creating favourable conditions for investment in tourism and the hotel sector, with the aim of expanding the supply of rooms and meeting the expected growth in demand. These measures form part of Egypt’s goal of attracting 30 million tourists by 2030.
The authorities are drawing up a strategic plan to transform the area stretching from the airport in Giza to the Dahshur region. The plan is for the area to welcome new hotels, resorts and cultural and entertainment projects. By 2030, the authorities expect to create between 20,000 and 25,000 hotel rooms in this area.
