India to host Women's Hockey League for the first time
Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey has announced that the country will host the women's Hockey India League for the first time, marking an important development for Indian sport.
Talking to ANI, a partner of TV BRICS, Tirkey highlighted the substantial support from the Odisha government.
"Odisha government is the backbone of Hockey India. Hockey is developing a lot in India after the Odisha government started supporting us," he stated.
Tirkey said that the upcoming league is a vital platform for young athletes and coaches alike.
Looking ahead, he said India will focus on upcoming major events including Asian Games, FIH World Cup and 2028 Olympics.
At the Paris Olympics, the Indian men's hockey team made history by winning consecutive bronze medals, something it had failed to achieve for 52 years.
