Indian state of Goa achieves 100% literacy
The campaign to combat illiteracy has reached almost 3,000 people
The Indian state of Goa has been officially declared a region with a fully literate population. Illiteracy among residents aged 15 and older has been completely eliminated, according to News9, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, this result was made possible by reforming the education system and implementing the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
The “Jan-Jan Sakshar” educational initiative reached nearly 3,000 illiterate residents from 12 districts of the state. The training was conducted by volunteers, ranging from retired teachers to students of teacher training colleges. The focus was not only on reading but also on financial literacy and life skills.
It is noted that achieving 100 per cent literacy in Goa was an important milestone on the path to social equality and expanding opportunities for all residents. State authorities emphasise that they will continue to develop an inclusive education system.
