Sergey Lavrov: BRICS group is ready to welcome representatives of different economic and political systems

At the moment, 45 per cent of the world's population live in the BRICS countries

Countries that want to join BRICS should be willing to cooperate with the principle of sovereign equality of states. This was stated by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting of the Business Council under the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“Now a multipolar world order is being formed. This implies respect for the diversity of the world's peoples, their right to determine their own ways and models of development. And unification in this sense arouses ever-growing interest, respect and a desire to work together. I repeat that the doors are open for representatives of the most diverse economic and political systems, macro-regions"

Sergey Lavrov Russian Foreign Ministry

He noted that after the accession of five new member countries from 1 January 2024, the BRICS countries occupy more than 30 per cent of the Earth's landmass, have 45 per cent of the world's population (3.6 billion people), provide more than 40 per cent of all oil production and about a quarter of the world's exports of goods (meaning all goods). This is reported by the website Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

According to the International Monetary Fund's estimates for last year's results, the BRICS founders had a GDP of US$58.9 trillion which is 33 per cent of the world's GDP.
