Algeria may become a member of BRICS - the country has filled a formal application to join the alliance, an Arabic-language newspaper Echorouk writes about this with reference to the statement of the special envoy of the country's Foreign Ministry for international partnership Leila Zerrougui, who spoke on the Algerian state radio.
On the 1st of August this year, the president of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his interest in joining the bloc. The head of state stressed that the republic has all the conditions to become a part of the bloc.
BRICS grouping includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. A number of other countries want to join the economic alliance. Among them are Argentina and Iran. In addition, officials from Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt announced their desire to join the BRICS.
