The partnership may become part of Brazil’s Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA)
Brazil and Ecuador have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on artificial intelligence, aimed at boosting academic and scientific collaboration as well as training professionals in high-performance computing.
The agreement was formalised on Monday during Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa’s official visit to Brazil, where he met President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace in Brasilia. The initiative marks a step towards developing Latin American AI models tailored to the region’s needs, as stated on the official website of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Brazil’s Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Luciana Santos, stressed the importance of technological sovereignty, noting that developing countries must work together to avoid dependency on more industrialised nations. She underlined the need for regional coordination and integration in Latin America to ensure the creation of digital technologies that reflect local realities.
The partnership may become part of Brazil’s Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA), which supports 100 collaborative research projects in AI with Latin American and African partners.
