Brazil's federal government to allocate US$2,28 billion to build houses in rural areas

This initiative is being implemented under the “Rural Areas” and “Education” programme

The federal government will allocate R$11,6 billion (US$2,28 billion) for the construction of 112,500 homes under the My Home My Life (MCMV) programme in rural areas and municipalities. This was announced by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

According to Planalto, the total number of flats selected exceeds the initial target set by the Ministry of Cities by more than 140 per cent. The most vulnerable groups, such as female heads of households and families at risk, will be prioritised.

The programme will provide housing for 440,000 people in rural and urban areas. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

The increase in the target is due to the high volume of proposals submitted, as well as President Lula's goal of building 2 million new homes by 2026.
