China's top policy advisory body emphasised the importance of increasing the country's employment rate, especially among young recent graduates
Liu Jieyi, spokesperson for the second session of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), stressed that the Communist Party of China and the State Council have given priority to studying the labour market.
He said 91 proposals for solutions to the industry's problem have been submitted, many of which have been translated into concrete policies and measures.
He also highlighted specific initiatives to address structural problems in the sector, such as linking educational institutions with industry to facilitate employment for university graduates.
According to the spokesman, the advisors placed emphasis on improving the vocational training system and creating a more equal working environment. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
In 2024, the CPPCC National Committee will carry out a series of works to stabilise jobs and expand employment, such as conducting a survey on how to provide support for college graduates, he said.
Liu said committee members will also focus on improving the continuous vocational training system and helping resolve structural contradictions in employment.
The spokesman noted that in 2023, local governments allocated more than 300 billion yuan (US42,2 billion) in direct support for the labour market and entrepreneurship, creating 12,44 million new jobs in urban areas.
This year, China upgraded the method of measuring the country's unemployment rate and excluded students from surveys to better target labour force policies.
