Chinese archaeologists discover fossils of new armored dinosaur species
Researchers gave it the name "Datai yingliangis"
Scientists have discovered the fossilised remains of two armored dinosaur in Jiangxi province, eastern China. It is a new species of dinosaur called "datai yingliangis". According to Associate Professor Xing Lida of China University of Geosciences, it is an important addition to the fossil history of early Late Cretaceous. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The dinosaurs found are young individuals, with body lengths ranging from 3.5 to 4 metres. They are characterised by the presence of a pair of small horns on each cheek. Traces of curved burrows about 2 cm in diameter were also found on the third and fourth cervical vertebrae.
Interestingly, both dinosaurs were found one on top of the other, which may indicate rapid burial by sandy sediments, possibly related to the gregarious behaviour of armored dinosaurs.
